Saflax Giant Granadilla / Giant Tumbo

Its striking flowers, measuring up to 10 cm and appearing from the third year onwards, make the Giant Granadilla - a member of the passion flower family - a stunning eye-catcher in the garden and on the balcony.

Our tips:

• Soak seeds in lukewarm water for two days before sowing to improve germination
• Cover seeds only lightly with soil
• Cover the cultivation container with cling film and provide air holes to prevent the soil from drying out
• Remove the film every two to three days for about two hours to prevent mould formation
• Place the cultivation container in a bright and warm spot at 25 to 30°C
• Keep the soil surface moist but not wet
• Place in a full sun spot outdoors from early summer to late autumn
• Requires a climbing aid
• No special soil requirements
• Water sufficiently and keep the soil well-moistened, but avoid waterlogging
• Fertilise weekly with tub plant fertiliser from March to October
• Shoots that have grown too long can be shortened at any time from April to June
• Prune back vigorously to 20 to 30 cm in late winter
• Overwinter in a bright location at 5 to 15°C
