As a fan-leaved tree, the ginkgo represents a bridge between deciduous and coniferous trees. Its horizontally protruding branches give it its unmistakable shape, making it a unique eye-catcher.

Interesting Facts

• The ginkgo tree is originally native to present-day China, where it was the only member of its species to survive the Ice Age.
• In many regions of East Asia, the ginkgo tree is revered as a temple plant.

Our Tips:

• The seeds should be roughened with sandpaper or a file before sowing and then pre-soaked in water at room temperature for 12 hours to improve germination
• Cover the cultivation containers with film and provide them with holes so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove the film every two to three days for two hours to prevent mold formation
• Keep the potting soil moist but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25°C
• Loves a sunny location, but should be protected from direct sunlight
• Ensure sufficient and even watering
• Fertilisation with special bonsai fertiliser is recommended every two weeks from April to September
• Overwintering in a protected, cool location without sub-zero temperatures
